The Law of Large Numbers
Handwoven
Inspired by Xu Zhimo, a Chinese romantic poet from the early 20th century, and his reflection on the beauty in the enormity of numbers, The Law of Large Numbers examines organic harmony and human-induced discord through handwoven fabrics. Drawing on the principle that large numbers naturally form arrangements and tempos, the collection interprets this duality through twenty handwoven textiles — ten for harmony and ten for discord.
Working with the constraints of black, white, and neutral yarns only, the collection explores different materials, textures, and weaving techniques to create contrast within each piece, pushing creative boundaries while embracing the challenge of limited resources.
